Professor Jing Bingyi obtained his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Sydney in 1993. From 1992 to 1994, he conducted post - doctoral research at the Australian National University under the guidance of Professor Peter Hall, a world - renowned statistician. From 1994 to 2021, he worked at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, serving as a professor in the Department of Mathematics and the director of the Center for Statistical Science. Currently, he is the Deputy Director of Research of the Department of Statistics and Data Science, a doctoral supervisor, a Chair Professor, and the Director of the Big Data Innovation Center at the Southern University of Science and Technology.
Professor Jing Bingyi has a wide range of research interests, including probability theory and mathematical statistics, financial econometrics and high - frequency data analysis, machine learning theory and algorithms, bioinformatics, network data analysis, reinforcement learning, etc. He has carried out many pioneering studies in various fields and achieved numerous breakthrough scientific research results. He has published more than 100 papers, which have been cited over 3,500 times (Google Scholar). Many of his academic papers have been published in top international journals, including the four top journals in the statistics field (Annals of Statistics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Biometrika, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society B), top journals in the probability field (Annals of Probability, Probability Theory and Related Fields, Bernoulli), top journals in financial econometrics (Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics), a top journal in bioinformatics (Bioinformatics), and the top domestic journal "Science in China", etc.
Professor Jing Bingyi was awarded the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2015. He is a Changjiang Scholar Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education, a Chair Scholar of the "Changjiang Scholar Incentive Program" of the Ministry of Education, and has won the Second Prize of the Natural Science Award of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education twice (in 2010 and 2015). Professor Jing Bingyi is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), an elected Fellow of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), a member of the Council of the Pan - Chinese Statistical Association, and has successively served as an associate editor and editorial board member of several international journals. In 2022, he was awarded the Huawei Spark Award.
