Qiman Shao , the founding dean and Chair Professor of the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Southern University of Science and Technology. He graduated from Hangzhou University (now Zhejiang University) in 1983, obtained a master's degree in 1986, and a doctorate from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1989. Professor Shao has taught at Hangzhou University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Oregon in the United States, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Professor Qiman Shao is mainly engaged in research on the basic theory of probability and statistics. He has systematically and deeply developed the self - normalized limit theory, established self - normalized large - deviation and moderate - deviation theorems. He has developed and improved the Stein's method for normal and non - normal approximations, established random concentration inequalities and basic methods for determining limiting distributions.
